About Julian
Julian began music as a classical pianist at age five where he built a rich foundation of musicality and theory. Moving to drums at age 8 he continued to immerse himself in music. Inspired by artists like Ramin Djawadi and Hanz Zimmer, Julian began to use his ear and knowledge of theory to compose at age 11. Julian started lessons with his second drum teacher, Berklee Alumn Matt Burwell in seventh grade.
The summer of his 8th grade Julian traveled to Italy for Musica Vesuviana summer camp where he deepened his understanding of music. There Julian began to develop his jazz vocabulary and was introduced to afro-cuban and Brazilian styles by Berklee Alumni Sergio Beloti. The next two years he returned to Italy Musica Vesuviana where he directed his own ensembles, Taught classes as a student liaison, studied jazz piano and composition.
At His high school Julian has been a member of the Honors Band, Orchestra, Jazz band and Pit Band (for the musical) all four years, and frequently plays with the Madrigal Singers and Honors Orchestra. He Is also the director of the schools A cappella group. His sophomore year he composed, arranged, directed and conducted for the high school jazz band, then went on to write for the Band, Honors Orchestra, and Choir. At his school he he took AP music theory and a synthesis course with content from Berklee College of music.
Also a member of the music tech program at his school Julian has learned many skills in production and recording. His rock band Error404 won their towns battle of the bands two years in a row. He toured Italy his junior year with the schools jazz band. Sophomore year Julian joined an ensemble as a pianist led by Jesse Williams. Through this ensemble Julian began to form his network of musicians in the Boston area outside of his school.
He began gigging regular at fundraisers and wedding type events on both piano and drums. Julian attended Jazz in July as a drummer at Umass amherst and studied under Wizard Harper and Steve Johns. There he brought two of his compositions and directed then performed them in the final concert. Junior year Julian auditioned on drums into the North Shore Jazz Project Allstars led by Michael Tucker, and performed at the Salem Jazz festival. All this time Julian had been studying Classical Vocals and made his first performance at the end of junior year. He then won second place in two categories as jazz and classical vocalist for the American Protege Competition and will be performing at Carnegie Hall.
This past summer Julian Attended Berklee where he studied with Steve Johns, Larry Finn, Henrique De Almeida and Ricardo Monzon. There he formed a duo with Australian Vocalist Chloë Marshal called shades of november which released its first single in November. He left five week with a 20k per year scholarship to Berklee College of Music.
